Marvin L. Rose
Marvin L. Rose, 58, of Aberdeen, SD, cherished father, devoted grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and faithful service dog on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.
Marvin Lynn Rose was born on September 14, 1965, in Deadwood, South Dakota. He was raised by loving parents Shirley (Holland) and Jack Fries in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1985.
Marvin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and bravely served his country, demonstrating unwavering courage and dedication throughout his military career. Despite facing challenges, he remained resilient, inspiring all who knew him.
Marvin was known for his culinary talents, especially his skill in making delicious holiday ham that brought family and friends together. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and creating cherished memories with his family at Roy Lake that will last a lifetime.
As a loving father, Marvin leaves behind his two beloved daughters, Sarah and Deardra, who were the light of his life. His love will continue to guide them through life’s journey. Marvin’s legacy also lives on through his six adoring grandchildren, Piper, Rayna, Owen, Hayden, Emalyn, and Aliyah, who brought him immense pride and joy.
Marvin carried the memory of his brother and best friend, Todd, with him always, a bond that remained unbreakable, even in death. Though they were separated by time, their memories will be forever cherished. Marvin’s love for his mother knew no bounds, and he treasured every moment he spent in her presence.
Not only was Marvin a devoted family man, but he also formed a special bond with his loyal service dog, Loki. Loki brought him comfort and joy in the hard times. Marvin found solace in Loki’s companionship, and they shared a unique and unbreakable connection.
Honored and blessed to have shared Marvin’s life are his daughters, Sarah (Tyler) Schwartz of Hoven, SD, and Deardra (Lon) Hearnen of Conde, SD; grandchildren: Piper, Rayna, Owen, Hayden, Emalyn, and Aliyah; siblings: Brenda (Dennis) Joy of Aberdeen, SD, Jon (Mary) Rose of Colorado Springs, CO, Terry Fries of Aberdeen, SD, Tamra (Troy) Peschong of Milbank, SD, Tracy (Jeromy) Loken of Ipswich, SD, and Summer Fries of Frederick, SD; best furry friend and service dog, Loki; great aunt Elda Stange; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Todd, and several aunts, uncles, and extended family.
Marvin’s presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his legacy of courage, love, and resilience continue to inspire all.
May he rest in peace, reunited with his loved ones gone before him, and may his memory be a blessing to those who mourn his loss. Semper Fi.
