Lola Mae Berlin, 98, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor.

Lola Mae Karr was born on May 15, 1926, in McPherson County, SD, to Oscar and Gladys (Swanson) Karr. She was raised on the family farm in Leola, SD, and attended local school.

Lola was united in marriage to Chester Berlin on September 12, 1945. They lived most of their lives together in Aberdeen.  Two beautiful children were born to this union: Sharon and Bob. Lola worked as a stay-at-home mother and had her own daycare for over 15 years. Once her kids were grown and out of the house, she worked as a unit secretary at Dakota Midland Hospital for over 29 years.

In her spare time, Lola loved keeping a beautiful garden. She mainly raised vegetables and enjoyed canning or pickling them in every way she could! She also loved bowling, and she bowled in leagues for many years. Lola was an excellent card player and was loyal to the Aberdeen Senior Center for many years.

Lola is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Roy) Johnson of Andover, MN; daughter-in-law, Patty Berlin; three grandchildren: Troy Johnson, Ryan Berlin, and Camille Berlin Abel; several great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Jan, who spent quality time nearly every day with Lola while she was at the nursing home. She was a blessing to Lola and her family.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester; son, Bob; and her siblings.
