Daniel Eschenbaum, 73, of Selby passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023, at his home in Selby with his wife, family, and friends by his side.

Daniel “Dan” W. Eschenbaum was born on November 13, 1950, at the Faulkton Hospital in Faulkton, SD, to Rolland “Bill” and Rosella “Rosie” Eschenbaum. Dan graduated from Faulkton High School in 1969. Following high school, he attended the School of Commerce in Aberdeen where he graduated in August 1970 with a Senior Accounting Degree.

Dan enlisted in the US Air Force in August 1970. His basic training was in San Antonio, TX, followed by specialized training in Biloxi, MS, and San Angelo, TX. He served three years in San Vito, Italy. He was honorably discharged in August 1974 with the rank of Sergeant E4. Proudly serving his country, Dan received a Presidential Citation for meritorious service.

After his discharge Dan attended Northern State College in Aberdeen where he graduated in May 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with an emphasis in Management and Accounting.

Dan was united in marriage to Sandra Meester on May 21, 1977. They spent 46 years enjoying their time together and sharing many of the same interests and goals. He began his career with Cenex-Land O Lakes in August 1977, in Ada, MN as an accountant. Later he transferred to Williston, ND, and then Spokane, WA where he worked as an office manager and accountant. In 1988 they transferred to Bozeman, MT, where he worked for Cenex-Land O Lakes. In 1994 he went to work for Gallatin County as the Senior Accountant. Dan retired in April 2013, and they moved to Selby, SD, where they have since resided.

Dan was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Faulkton, Frederick Schauer American Legion Post #100 in Selby, and the Governmental Financial Officers Association. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, scale modeling, target shooting and golfing.

Dan is survived by his wife, Sandra; sister, Virginia Vetter of Selby, nephews, Christopher Vetter, Michael Vetter, Joshua Vetter, and their families.

He is preceded in death by Rolland Eschenbaum (father) in October 1981, Rosella Hansen (mother) in December 2022, Roger Vetter (brother-in-law) in October 2016, LaDonna Meester (sister-in-law) in June 1997.
