Beverly Kolb-Wochnick, 95, of Flagstaff, AZ, died Thursday, April 4, 2024, at TJ’s Assisted Living in Flagstaff, AZ.

Beverly was born September 11, 1928, in Webster, SD, to Herman and Ingeborg (Hustel) Wahl. She grew up helping on her family’s farm in the Verdon, Ferney, Conde area and went to school in a rural, one room schoolhouse in Verdon. Beverly earned a degree in education from Northern State Teacher’s College so she could return to teach in Verdon.

On June 2nd, 1947, Beverly was joined in marriage to Alvin Kolb in Aberdeen, SD. After their marriage, Alvin served in the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956. During his deployment in Korea, Beverly moved to California where she worked for a phone company. They returned to the farm when Alvin’s deployment was over. They spent a short time farming before moving to Aberdeen. Beverly worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for several years before starting at the SD State Division of Unemployment until her retirement some years later. Alvin and Beverly greatly enjoyed bowling and playing Bridge together. Their family also took weekend trips to the river and later to Pickerel Lake. Beverly earned a Life Master honor in Bridge. She returned to school and earned her four-year CPA with a 4.0 GPA and honors.

Alvin and Beverly enjoyed their years together peacefully until Alvin’s passing in 1988. Beverly was a snowbird and during one of her trips to Arizona, she met Phillip Wochnick. They married sometime later and eventually made a home together in Ash Fork, AZ until Beverly’s passing.

Grateful for having shared Beverly’s life are her husband Phillip Wochnick, her sons Gregory Kolb, Alvin (Cher) Kolb, and Daniel Kolb (Chris Bray), her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her brother Herman (Darlene) Wahl.
