Beverly Bohling Shaw, 98, of Aberdeen, SD, died Sunday, March 2, at her home.

Beverly Irene Schmidt was the first-born child to Leone (James) and Charles Schmidt on August 28, 1926, in Aberdeen, SD. Her family lived east of Columbia, SD, and went to Daly Corners to school. She graduated from Columbia, SD high school. After graduation, Beverly went to Long Beach, CA, and worked at the Douglas Aircraft Plant as a riveter, working on planes. After getting homesick for her boyfriend, she moved back home and worked in Aberdeen at Hub City Iron.

On September 26, 1945, Beverly married Adolf Bohling at St. John’s Lutheran Church. For the next 37 years, she was a farmer’s wife while raising their three children: Deanna, Susan, and Jerry.

Beverly and Adolf moved to Aberdeen to retire in the fall of 1982. She baked pies for the Airport Café and people would buy the whole pie, not just a slice! Adolf passed away in 1983. Beverly led a Godly life, was generous, and had a heart of gold. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She did volunteer work at the hospitals and delivered Meals on Wheels. She traveled with friends and family to places like Hawaii, Michigan, and Canada. She was member of the Goof Off Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Ladies Aides.

Beverly loved her grandchildren and her great and great great-grandchildren dearly. She enjoyed playing cards, baking, cooking, and entertaining, having many parties in her home. Red Beers with olives were Beverly’s favorite. She also loved dancing. After courting for a year, she married John Shaw. They had met at dance lessons a year earlier. Now they were dance partners and partners for life.

Grateful for having shared Beverly’s life are her children: Deanna (Ron) Bonn, Susan (Daniel) Heinz, and Jerry (Vina) Bohling; grandchildren: Tammy (Darrell) Karlen, Brook (dec.)
